though its a little old "Howto" .. but i found it the easiest step by step guide to install oracle .. it worked will on my Ubuntu Junty nicely ... i guess just step 3 and 4 are interchanged ...

For solve libstdc++5 problem you shouldn't downgrade this library. you need just link /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 to /usr/lib/libstd++.so.6

		<description>Also works on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), but change ORACLE_HOME value in step 5 to "$ORACLE_BASE/product/10.2.0" instead of "$ORACLE_BASE/product/10gR2".  If you tried to install XE first and failed, also be sure to carefully clean-up after it (especially the default directory of Oracle account).
