Kubuntu 8.04 64bit essential apps install guide

    This guide shows howto install essential apps under Kubuntu 8.04 64bit:

    Kernel:

  • 2.6.24-18-generic
  • 2.6.24-17-generic
  • 2.6.24-16-generic

    • Hardware:

  • HP Compaq nx7400
  • Dell D630

  1. Firefox & java runtime & flash
  2. Klamav, clamav, dazuko
  3. CiscoSystemsVPNClient 64bit
  4. UMTS dialup connection using Sony Ericsson k800i, Bluetooth and KPPP
  5. VMware Server 1.0.6

1. Firefox & java runtime & flash

Java Plugin

Add following sources to adept:
deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/ hardy/
deb-src http://people.ubuntu.com/~doko/ubuntu/ hardy/

Run:
apt-get install icedtea-gcjwebplugin

Flash Plugin

apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

If this isn’t working for you try to fallback to the Firefox 32bit version. Here you can find a nice howto and and automated install script:

Works perfect on Hardy and saves a lot of time!
