Wordpress 2.5 flash uploader fix / Kubuntu 8.04 64bit / Firefox / flashplugin-nonfree

Ok…. just set up a new Wordpress 2.5 blog. Now I’m writing a kubuntu howto and want to upload some images to the post. Doesn’t work! …bad! So how to fix it?

#1 Question: What am I using?
Answer: Kubuntu 64bit / Firefox 2.0.0.14 / flashplugin-nonfree

Aha! That’s the problem. Since Wordpress version 2.5 the upload manager is based on kinda flashuploader the opensource kubuntu 64bit flashplugin-nonfree can’t deal with. Ok…

So no time for hacking or bugfinxing the wp-code or the local flash installation. I decided to throw away the flash uploader and switch back to the old uploader plugin. Works fine. See the test image below.

Ok, problem solved. Let’s have a beer!

    Update 30.05.08:

If the “insert into post” function ends up in a white screen:

  1. Log out from your blog.
  2. Close all Firefox windows
  3. Log in to your blog having only one Firefox window and only one tab open
  4. Edit your post and insert an image
  5. Now you can start using Firefox as normal. Multiple windows, multiple tabs.
